Behind the New Covers
First of all, I adore my original covers. They’re so pretty, and they represent how my books are fantasy romance inspired by Regency England. But with romantasy and cozy fantasy becoming more popular, a new look has emerged for covers in cozy fantasy romance, and mine looked more like regular historical romances than others in my genre. So at the beginning of this year, I decided it was time to redo mine. sob. My new covers all have the same background design and layout to tie them as a series, with the colors and the title silhouette varying based on the elements in that book.
The Spellbinding Courtship
The color for The Spellbinding Courtship is raspberry to match Selena’s favorite dress color, which she wears several times, including her presentation ball. The silhouette is a dancing Regency couple to represent Selena and Aragon’s courtship, which is the heart of their story.
The Enchanted Bird
The color for The Enchanted Bird is green because that’s Wren favorite color. (Did you notice it’s the only color she wears? lol.) The silhouette is a wren to represent Wren herself as well as the wooden bird containing her glamour spell that Hawke uses to hunt for his “mysterious” lady.
The Nightmara Affair
The color for The Nightmara Affair is navy to match Kiera’s eyes (and it’s a color she wears often.) The silhouette is a horse to represent the nightmara, who are horse-like magical creatures with the power over dreams and bring Kiera and Devon together.
The Secret Soulbond
The cover for The Secret Soulbond was the hardest for me to put together. Most of the colors associated with Annalise are pale (think Elsa, lol), and how do you represent a soulbond? Finally, I went with bronze to represent Dare’s magic and their connection to nature. And the silhouette is Annalise and Dare’s hands together with a heart-shaped flower plant growing from her hand (which again reinforces their connection to nature.)
The Goddess’s Illusion
The cover for The Goddess’s Illusion is crimson because that’s Kit’s favorite color (since it’s the same color as ripe Goddess laurel apples.) The silhouette is an apple to represent those Goddess laurel apples, which are magical holy apple-like fruit with a cinnamon twist.
The Sun-Nymph Bride
The cover for The Sun-Nymph Bride is golden amber because of Pippa’s emotional resemblance to a sun nymph (and it’s a color she wears often and Edouard gives her a bracelet made of butterscotch amber.) The silhouette is a sun to represent Pippa as well.
The Beast Curse
The cover for The Beast Curse is deep purple because that’s Juliet’s favorite color (since it’s the same color as special flowers from her home kingdom.) The silhouette is her and Oakmoor back to back with him as a beast, representing both their quarreling and his curse.
